INDUSTRIAL SCENARIO OF RAICHUR DISTRICT
General Industrial scenario of the District:
Raichur District is industrially one of most backward District in Karnataka. Sindanur and Manvi Taluks of the Raichur District are considered as Rice Bowl of Karnataka as they are blessed with World class paddy grown fields. Before 1990s, Raichur was also well known for the Oil seeds and Cotton industries. Due to lack of Technological Upgradation and cut-throat competition due to imports, it lost its base as one of the leading district in oil seed and Cotton industries. In the last one decade due to severe competition from MNC’s and Large Scale Indutries, driven by WTO, the growth rate of small scale Industries has been slowed down.There is great potential in the district to emerge as strong industrial base as it possess abundant natural resources like Minerals, Water resources, Power, Land Availability, Human Resources, very good railway connectivity, Road connectivity, and being nearest place for Hyderabad.

The following are the statistics of the L & M Industries. Major Industries like KPCL and Hutti gold Mines are set up by the Government of Karnataka and the other Medium Industries are set up by the outsiders to the state though got settled down in the district long back.

Resources Availability:
Raichur district is spread over an area of 8386 sq.km distributed among 5 Taluks. Raichur is well known for quality Rice Production, Sunflower, Cotton etc. and Horticultural produces like Mango, Banana, Lemon, etc. The main minerals in the district are Gold, Copper, Iron, Feldspar, Granite, Sandstone, Quartz, Limestone, etc. The district is blessed with Two Major Rivers Krishna and Tungabhadra which provide water supply to the district. Tungabhadra Left Bank Canal irrigates about 80,000 hectares of land in the district. The Narayanpur Project on the River Krishna increased the irrigation facilities of the district.Infrastructure Availability:
Roads: Raichur District has in all 5799 kms in which 483 kms are on State Highway and 664.15kms on Major district roads and these roads are methodically improved regularly.
Power: Raichur has the most prestigious and profit-making power generation unit, viz. Raichur Thermal Power Station with 7 Units each of 210 MW capacity which is running almost at 100% capacity.
Railways: Raichur city is well connected by a Broadgauge line with many important cities like Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmadabad, New Delhi, Coimbotture, Trivendram, etc. On an average more than 50 Trains pass through Raichur every day.
Financial Institutions: Raichur district has more than 10 Commercial Banks spread over 46 branches in the district with State Bank of Hyderabad as the Lead Bank.
Educational Institutions: Though the percentage of literacy in the district is one of the lowest in the country, Raichur district has distinction of having University of Agriculture Science, Agriculture Engineering College, Engineering College, Medical College, Three Polytechnics, Five I.T.I’s followed by a good number of colleges to provide Graduation in Science, Arts and Commerce. In addition a Pharmacy College, a Dental College are also established in the District.
